Gone are the days when power systems were limited to 120 or 480 volts at 60 Hertz. However, it's easy to take this progress for granted.
In the manufacturing world, it's not just about three-phase, 480V systems anymore. Imagine being on the factory floor and looking up at an old air mover on the roof, running at a single speed, or if you're lucky, equipped with mechanical gears for three-speed control. That’s a relic of the past.
Today's manufacturing landscape is dominated by Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), which bring a vast range of electrical capabilities. Voltage can range from 100V to 690V, current from a few amps to several hundred, and frequencies from zero to four hundred Hertz in mere microseconds. Power ratings span from a few hundred watts to several megawatts.
